Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Sharing a very well known poem with you this week, made famous by Nelson Mandela who used it to keep him strong when he was in prison. And also brought to the fore by the film of the same name.

The last paragraph is the most powerful.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

What Are You Thinking?

“I will not allow anyone to walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” Mahatma Ghandi.

In other words be aware of the impact that other people and the things you say to yourself can have on you. To make sure no-one walks through your mind with dirty feet, surround yourself with positive people who will support you and check that what you are saying to yourself is positive as well.
